“I prefer Sarah Connor as a rock singer to her Christmas record”

Thomas Gottschalk responded to Sarah Connor’s public statement on how he dealt with the musician’s cancellation due to illness for the show “2022! People, images, emotions”. After an explanation, however, the moderator shot the musician again.

Gottschalk: “Everyone except me has probably become a little more sensitive”

Thommy told the “Bild”: “Such a cancellation shortly before the show is always annoying and with the saying ‘There is also good news’ I just wanted to express that we couldn’t help it that Sarah wasn’t there. A few days before she is still happy on ‘Breakfast TV’ [in der Sat.1-Sendung war Connor am 06. Dezember Gästin] gymnastics I thought she knew me well enough not to take a line like that seriously like it was meant to.”

He further explained: “I have to put up with much harder gags from Barbara Schöneberger. That used to be part of the business. But everyone, except me, has probably become a bit more sensitive.” As an alleged Connor fan, Gottschalk adds: “I prefer Sarah Connor as a rock singer to her Christmas record. That’s enough for me Mariah Carey.”

After Connor’s cancellation, Connor was switched to the RTL show by phone and received an unpleasant saying from Thomas Gottschalk: “I said to my employees: It was a shitty year, but there is also good news: Sarah Connor canceled.”

During the show, Connor didn’t show anything, afterwards she reacted in an Instagram story with the question “Ok, what was that just?” Along with the two hashtags “Old white men” and “I don’t have to put up with it”.

Gottschalk moderated the annual review for the first time with ex-defense minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. Previously, Günther Jauch presented the show for 16 years.
