Marcel van Roosmalen is not happy when fans ask him on the street to take a selfie. Firstly, he finds it a rather strange request and secondly, he does not consider himself photogenic.
In recent years, Marcel van Roosmalen has become an increasingly well-known Dutchman and that includes fans. “There is always someone who says something to me. I no longer dare to enter the Efteling, because then I won’t get any further,” says the professional sidekick in conversation with Veronica Superguide.
half moron
People often want to have their picture taken with Marcel. “I always do that, but I don’t know why I do it. Yes, because otherwise they will get angry. That has happened a few times: if you don’t give what people want, you are immediately arrogant.”
He doesn’t understand the selfie need at all. “No, I’ve never asked anyone that either. Why put yourself in such a position that you say: I think you’re bigger than I am, do you want a picture with me? Then I always look like a moron, so what do you do with it? Are you going to show that to other people?”
egotistical
Doesn’t Marcel find it self-satisfying? “What strokes my ego is when people buy my book Totaal, praise something I’ve done on Twitter or listen to the podcast I make every day with Gijs Groenteman: Weer een Dag.”
“But I’m not flattered to have conversations in the street or take pictures with people I don’t know at all.”
