T.superclassic hotspots of the Italian summer are preparing the sand for the return – after a two-year break due to Covid – of the “live Lega Volley Summer Tour“, the top female Sand Volley 4 × 4 championshiporganized by Volleyball League Serie A Women and by Master Group Sport.

The debut is on the weekend of 9-10 July on the beaches of Lignano Sabbiadoro, with the 16th Italian Super Cup. Then, stop in the crowded one Riccione on July 16th and 17th with the 22nd Italian Cup. Then the grand finale in San Benedetto del Tronto on 23 and 24 July for the two days that assigns the title of the 27th Italian Championship. The athletes of six teams will take the field to compete for the trophies: the Italian champions in charge of the Banca Valsabbina Millenium Brescia, the holders of the Italian super cup of Vero Volley Monza and then E-Work Laica Busto Arsizio, MT San Giovanni in Marignano, Cuneo Granda Volley (on tour debut), Casalmaggiore Construction Company.

«The Summer Tour was created to give continuity to the Indoor Championship, which stops near the arrival of summer and then resumes in September. And, in fact, in a quarter of a century of the tournament, the strongest teams in the country and athletes of the highest level have faced each otherincluding Maurizia Cacciatori and Francesca Piccinini, volleyball champions who have now become true icons of the world of sport, ”says Consuelo Mangifesta, former volleyball player and now Head of External Relations and Communications of the Serie A Women’s Volleyball League.
The rules of the live Lega Volley Summer Tour
The teams, each made up of four athletes, compete in a sand field that has the same dimensions as the indoor fields. The basic rules? Two out of three sets are played at 15 points with a point limit at the 21st point, while the third set has no point limit. The team that wins two sets first; each victory is worth 2 points in the standings, zero defeat.
Stronger and stronger athletes
“In recent years the spectacle of the game has definitely risen” adds Consuelo Mangifesta. «When I was playing, who are 1.78 meters tall, I was among the tallest in the league, while now the athletes are from meter and 85 upwards. Today much more powerful champions compete against each other on the athletic level and, therefore, capable of exploiting this quality in explosive technical exchanges even on the beach and, in this case, especially in defensive actions: the sand bed, in fact, takes a little ‘power in attack, but absolutely enhances that in defense. The spectacle for the audience is thrilling“.

«As for the public – adds Mangifesta – it is the same as always: many women, many families and children sit in the stands; around the field, boys and girls see their favorites live and at close range, a positive model of success and value capable of inspiring the new generations. Often they also end up meeting them directly on the beach, when, after the match, the athletes mix with the public in the various organized entertainment activities ».
“The “alive Lega Volley Summer Tour” is exciting and fun also for the open-air party atmosphere that recreates every summer: the game is, in fact, the highlight of a series of experiences that the public – in a totally free and free way – can live, from the aperitif on the sand to the time of sunset, as soon as the game is over, to the DJ sets, to guaranteed entertainment from our guests, to the distribution of gadgets, to entertainment in the name of food and much more. I must say the beauty and pleasure of being together for a very high moment of competition and, at the same time, of fun and celebration by the sea are unique.
