‘I have not been invited to the Televizier gala’

Henny Huisman is furious because he has not been invited to the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala. The TV dinosaur was allowed to award a prize, but he himself refused. “I do not do that!”

Major TV events such as the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala and the Eurovision Song Contest have been dealing with this for many years: all kinds of former winners or elderly prominent figures who feel misunderstood. This time it is Henny Huisman’s turn; the presenter finds it scandalous that he was not in the Carré theater last week.

Not invited

Henny thinks he should be there every year and probably preferably in the royal box. “I always liked coming there, but I no longer receive an invitation. It seems as if they give priority to the young people. I remember being put up in the rafters with Mies Bouwman and her husband Leen Timp,” he says in Story.

And who was in the front then? “The one who was allowed to sit at the front was Barbie, who was on television with Oh Oh Cherso at the time. Now we don’t even get invited anymore.”

To award?

The Televizier organization did call, Henny admits. “Coincidentally, this year they called if I wanted to present the prize for the best youth program with Edwin Rutten. Because of the success of Better Late Than Never. I then said that the four of us would do it or not. They didn’t want that.”

It seems logical: after all, Edwin and Henny have made children’s television, the other two gentlemen have not. Still, Henny is outraged. “Frits Barend and Ad Visser were allowed to walk the red carpet, but they would then have a place in the audience. We refused!”

Didn’t look

Henny throws up on all those guys from Televizier. “Later I heard that they asked the singer Stefania for this. I didn’t watch the broadcast either.”

De Story has asked AvroTros for a response. She says that there is no room to invite all former winners. “In recent years we have been giving the public the opportunity to attend the evening. Also because it is an audience award.”
