After Billie Eilish and Finneas won her Oscar for the “Barbie” track “What Was I Made For?” and received it on stage, the singer said in her acceptance speech: “I had a nightmare about it last night.”
Second Oscar win for Billie Eilish and Finneas
The sibling duo won their second Oscar in the “Best Original Song” category on March 10th, after they won the award in 2022 for “No Time To Die” from the “James Bond” soundtrack.
“I had a nightmare about this last night,” Billie Eilish began her speech, before pausing and apparently reconsidering whether she should share more of the anecdote. She finally continued, “Thank you to the Academy. I just didn’t think this would happen. I did not expect this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored.” She went on to thank “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, saying she loved her and was “grateful for this film and the way it made me feel.”
“The film is incredible,” she added at the end.
Billie Eilish honors her dance and choir teachers
After Finneas thanked his team, his parents, his best friends and his girlfriend, Eilish stepped up to the microphone again. “I would like to thank my best friend Zoe for playing Barbie with me as a child and always being by my side,” she said. “I would like to thank my dance teachers that I grew up with. I would like to thank my choir teachers – Miss Brigham, thank you for believing in me. Miss T, you didn’t like me, but you were good at your job.”
“Best Original Song” is the only category that “Barbie” won at this year’s Oscars. Ryan Gosling’s track “I’m Just Ken” was also in the running in this category and came away empty-handed. However, Gosling performed the song live for the first time, with support from Guns N’ Roses’ Mark Ronson and Slash.
