Maija-Liisa Mattila, 72, has always been petite. With age, the proportions have changed and the height has decreased by a few centimeters. Even the current trends are not pleasing to the eye. For Maija-Liisa, getting clothes is just as much of a pain.
We recently wrote that some clothes have completely disappeared from clothing stores. There has also been a lot of talk about how much clothing sizes differ between different clothing stores. We had to test this in practice and found out how easily women of different sizes find clothes that fit in chain stores.
Following these stories, we asked our readers if they had any trouble finding clothes that fit them in clothing stores. Answers were obtained by wholesale. One of the respondents was 72 years old Maija-Liisa Mattilawho has been small all his life – he is now about 155 cm tall.
Maija-Liisa feels like she is drowning in clothes. It doesn’t make matters any easier that nowadays the sizing of clothes is a loose variety.
– Nowadays, almost all clothes are as wide as they are long. This style has never fit into my own world of thought, Maija-Liisa sums up.

It would be wonderful for him to find clothes that fit well, and that don’t always have to be altered. At the moment this is just a dream. Maija-Liisa even has to shorten her swimsuits, because otherwise they won’t stay on her.
Maija-Liisa always has to pay an extra fee of a few tens on top of the price of the product, because a visit to the seamstress is absolutely mandatory. Legs, hems and sleeves need to be shortened, otherwise he would have nothing to wear.
– A skilled seamstress is a treasure, says Maija-Liisa happily.

The sellers ask to go to the children’s department
On several occasions, Maija-Liisa has received a tip from a clothing store salesperson to head to the children’s clothing department. However, Maija-Liisa has not agreed to this.
– I imagine and hope that children’s clothes are quite different from the clothes that my age should wear. Children should be allowed to be children, he sums up.
Maija-Liisa feels that she just has to make do with what she can find. There’s just no choice.
– It’s depressing to go around the shops and find that you can’t find anything new. I feel like a second-class citizen in a clothing and shoe store.

“I would like more color in life”
Maija-Liisa describes her style as simple. He usually wears black clothes or combinations of black and white, but would like to change this more.
– I would like more color in life. Right now I’m leaning towards the color red.
He often can’t find the color options he likes in the stores, or the model is so wrong that it falls over.
Maija-Liisa says that she used to go to fairs with her husband. During these trips, Maija-Liisa visited different shops all day. How dare a man take you to the shops alone, Maija-Liisa’s friends playfully wondered.
– Very daring, because I always come empty-handed.

Maija-Liisa’s clothes shopping is not just gloom. Every now and then he also makes dream finds that don’t require the repair help of a seamstress. Such clothes can usually be found in the selections of domestic brands. Good finds can also be made from Sokos and Stockmann’s selection.
Maija-Liisa’s only regret is that Sokos and Stockmann’s selection is so wide that she often cannot take on this kind of shopping.
– A large selection is a good thing in itself, but the problem is wading through the departments of all the brands if you’re looking for a certain piece of clothing, Maija-Liisa sums up.
