“I even lived next to the police station”, Alkmaarder denies fleeing after kidnapping Spanbroek

The 38-year-old Alkmaarder, who managed to stay out of the hands of justice for months, will remain in custody for three months longer. The court in Alkmaar decided this today. He is one of the suspects in the infamous Spanbroek kidnapping case. The reason is said to be an argument over cocaine and money.

Nicky K. from Alkmaar – a muscular man with a short beard and a tattoo on his neck – greeted his lawyer upon entering and sat down. The man is suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of an Austrian, at the end of May in Spanbroek.

On that particular afternoon, the victim was forcibly pushed into a car on Herenweg, according to the police. Shopkeepers saw what happened and said that the man was wearing socks and shouting very loudly. “He couldn’t move,” said an eyewitness.

Suspect denies fleeing

It is still unclear what his role was. K. did manage to stay out of the hands of the law for months. The Alkmaarder even fled to London, where he was arrested in July. He has now been stuck in the Netherlands for a few months.

The man himself denies that he fled. He is said to be in London for ‘business relations’, according to K. “I did not flee to England, as is alleged. I moved in public, even lived next to a police station. I used my debit card everywhere.” he told the judge.

His counselor Rob Jan Pardijs said that he wants to get his life back on track. He has three children and many fixed costs. According to his lawyer, he just wants to go back to work and take care of his sick father. “He is willing to surrender his passport,” he said. But the judge did not agree with that.

In addition to the Alkmaarder, a fourth suspect is in custody, whose name the Public Prosecution Service did not want to reveal on Friday. It concerns a 32-year-old man from Hoorn. After a long search, at the end of October, he was arrested in Bovenkarspel. It is not clear when he will have to appear in court.

Several suspects in the picture

In addition to the two suspects who were on the run, there are another four North Hollanders in the police’s custody. 31-year-old Toni van de V. from Wognum was detained for a few months, but was released last month. He is still a suspect.

A co-suspect, 32-year-old Anthony B. from Hoorn, would also be released. But he had to serve longer because of possible involvement in a drug case in West Friesland. The Public Prosecution Service informed NH that, according to cracked encrypted messages, he traded in weapons, coke, speed and MDMA in his own hometown for ‘several months’ in 2020 and this year.

The two other residents of the house, a 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman from Heerhugowaard, where the arrest team raided in June, were also arrested but were allowed to await the case in freedom. They also remain suspects in the case.

Nicky K. must appear again on March 24 next year. There is no date yet for a substantive hearing.
