FC Bayern meets Leverkusen in the top game. A year ago, Julian Nagelsmann was fired after this game. The national coach now reacted to this.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke about his departure from the German record champions around eleven months ago during the top game between Bayer Leverkusen and FC Bayern. The 36-year-old had to leave after a 1-2 defeat at the “Werkself”.
“I hope that Bayern plays better today, then it will be a more interesting game,” said Nagelsmann with a laugh before the game on the Sky TV channel. Today he doesn’t feel reminded of his expulsion from Munich. “I don’t have the thought that I was sacked after the game when I’m sitting here,” he said.
Nagelsmann on Tuchel: “Everything is viewed more critically at Bayern”
Nagelsmann also spoke about his coaching colleagues Thomas Tuchel and Xabi Alonso. Both have had similar success in the league this year. However, the external perception of the services seems different. While Tuchel is often criticized, Alonso has a much more positive stance.
“I think it has a lot to do with the history of the clubs,” said Nagelsmann, referring directly to FC Bayern. “If you work at a club that is always successful: from the outside, things might be bumpy in one or two moments. In terms of results, that’s not the case, but in general everything at Bayern is under strict observation and is viewed more critically.”
Nagelsmann also made it clear that Tuchel was already under contract with many top clubs and therefore had the corresponding pressure. “Xabi is still a relatively young coach when it comes to his tenure at such a big club,” said the DFB coach. “If things are going very, very well, then you will be looked at differently than at a club where things are always going well and you are basically not allowed to do anything other than win.”
