‘I don’t give an opinion about politics anymore’

Jack van Gelder is really tired of it. He is going to stop giving his opinion on political subjects. “That only makes me angry and rebellious.”

After being a regular at the HLF8 talk show table for a long time, Jack van Gelder currently only has Twitter left to voice his opinions. But now the presenter stops with that too. He resolves – and this is not the first time – not to say anything more about political issues.

Jack quits

Jack announces his decision in a statement on Twitter. “I’m definitely not leaving Twitter, but I won’t speak out about politics anymore. That only makes me angry and rebellious. They’re just figuring it out together in ‘The Hague’. I’m done with all that drama from the ladies and gentlemen over there.”

It statement, which has already been viewed more than 200 thousand times, elicits many reactions. For example, D66 prominent Kees Verhoeven says sarcastically: “Sensible Jack, although we will miss your thorough analyses.”

Julian Zieleman, party chairman of D66 Tilburg, also responds laconically. “Twitter will never be the same 😂.”

And Wilco Boom, political reporter for the NOS, says: “It remained restless in The Hague for a long time.”

D66 mayors

Why are D66 prominent people so laughing about Jack’s statement? The presenter received quite a bit of criticism this week with the following tweet: “New D66 mayors everywhere. Very strange.”

NRC journalist Tom-Jan Meeus, for example, said about this: “Football commentator does not know that local democracy elects the mayor. Very funny.”

Nonsense, says Jack: “I really understand the system, but I am surprised about a few things. Is that allowed?”
