“I didn’t take the picture to embarrass him”

Edwards has photographed British courts since the 1970s. He also managed to capture the first picture of Diana Spencer As Charles’ potential love interest, Diana arrived at one of Charles’ numerous horse polo matches. When the couple’s relationship was confirmed, Edwards headed to Diana’s workplace at Young England Nursery. The photographer asked the young woman to pose in the park next to the kindergarten. Diana agreed. In the picture, he has a couple of children in his arms.

– In the middle of the filming session, the sun started to shine. Diana’s beautiful legs stood out from under the transparent skirt, Edwards recalls in the documentary how chance played a part in the creation of the image that caused a stir.

– Many have told me that I shouldn’t have taken that picture. But I didn’t put him in that position for the picture. The sun just came out. The image has become iconic.

– I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. I didn’t take the picture to embarrass him, but it was such a good picture that it couldn’t be left unpublished.
