“I didn’t feel terribly comfortable about it”

Actors Elias Salonen and Anna Airola emerged from the Adult series. Now they have won the first prizes of the renewed Kultainen Venla gala in the prestigious category.

Actor Elias Salonen won the award for leading actor of the year at the Kultainen Venla gala on Friday. Salonen was awarded for his role Siegein the series, where he played a hitman Ilpo Larhaa.

– I was able to show a side of myself professionally that no one has seen before. That’s why this somehow feels really wonderful that it went to the finish line, Salonen told Iltalehte after his victory.

In his award speech, Salonen mentioned that the doors of the University of Theater did not open for him right away. During his student days, Salonen would not have thought that he would end up in the role of a hit man, for example.

– Back then, I lived so much in the school bubble that I didn’t think much beyond the next week. Of course, at that time you dreamed that you would be able to do it. Back then, I would never have thought that I would get to play a villain role. So many dreams have already come true at this point, it’s wonderful. There is still a terrible hunger – a really sickly big hunger to do whatever magical roles, Salonen said.

Last year, at the Kultainen Venla gala, for the first time, awards were handed out in a gender-neutral manner, when the male and female actor of the year awards remained in history.

Last year, the leading actor of the year award went to an actor Anna Airola.

– This is great to be here as Anna’s successor, Salonen rejoiced.

– There is still a terrible hunger – a really sickly big hunger to do any sweet roles, says Elias Salonen. Matti Matikainen

– I’m really happy about it. Frankly, last year when I was nominated as well—even though I’m cis, I didn’t feel terribly comfortable about it because I knew that a lot of my colleagues couldn’t get this award in that category. I’m really happy that it’s like this now, Airola told Iltalehte.

Airola said that Adultsseries and the role of Oona have influenced her enormously.

– This has been very important. I have done (the role) for years. This has been so impactful in every way that I can’t even begin to think of all the ways it has changed my life, Airola said.
