Machine Gun Kelly has been widely criticized for his musical transformation from rap to pop-punk. in one Interview with the music magazine “Billboard” he has now defended himself: “I know it’s killing certain bands in this community that I’m having the success I’m having. But I deserve this shit,” said the 31-year-old.

A true rocker with a soft spot for WiFi passwords

Adding to his rock cred, he said, “Dude, I loaded the van with our drum kit and amps in 2010, went to Indiana and Chicago and played on the Warped Tour. I can give you the damn Wi-Fi codes for venues in Blackfoot. Can you say that shit about you as a band?”

Colson Baker, self-proclaimed savior of guitar music

Every genre has its time: “The 2010s were great for singers and rappers and I was a part of it. But I think we needed something else: we needed an instrument,” says Colson Baker, whose name the musician goes on in the middle-class world.

He boasted about his supposed role in the renaissance of pop punk and guitar music: “The kids come up to me and say, ‘Dude, the first time I saw someone play guitar in concert was at your concert – and now I’m taking guitar lessons.’” And further: “(Rock) needed a defibrillator. Who cares who does the job as long as the motherfucker doesn’t die?”

In fact, at least the commercial success proves the musician right: With “Tickets To My Downfall” Machine Gun Kelly released his first number one album in the USA in 2020. With his record “Mainstream Sellout”, which will be released on Friday (March 25), in addition to an extensive arena tour, he will also headline major festivals such as the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
