For Ingrid Zijlema, ‘to make’ (or to create) is a basic necessity of life. When she gets an idea, it doesn’t let her go. This idea has to be made, to be executed. No matter how stupid or nonsensical. Part of her collection of canvas bags can be seen at Forum Library Selwerd
For Ingrid Zijlema, ‘to make’ (or to create) is a basic necessity of life. When she gets an idea, she doesn’t let it go. This idea has to be made, to be executed. No matter how stupid or nonsensical.
Zijlema (24) is a graphic designer, illustrator, but above all maker, from the city of Groningen. ‘Making’ is a way for her to deal with the world around her, to process things. Whether it’s painting, graphic design, sewing, drawing or screen printing, it doesn’t matter as long as she’s creating.
Physical product as a result
Because she not only loves making herself, but also likes having a physical product as a result, she has become more and more interested in making bags. Simple, grab-me-quick-with-the-go canvas bags. These bags are not only simple in shape and quick to make for her, they also form a good basis within which you can vary endlessly.
In this way, over a period of three years, a whole collection of bags was created that are about things that she experienced during that period, that bothered her or that she had to deal with. Part of this collection is now exhibited at Forum Library Selwerd. On display until June.
