Whether Robert Lewandowski or Serge Gnabry: There has been and continues to be speculation about the future of several stars of the German record champions. For Uli Hoeneß, the culprits are clear.
Honorary President Uli Hoeneß (70) recommends a thicker skin for FC Bayern Munich in view of the ongoing public transfer discussions about the world footballer Robert Lewandowski, who is willing to emigrate. “It seems that there are some journalists who get up every morning and say: ‘Which contractual pig can I drive through the village today?'” Hoeneß told the Münchner Merkur/tz media group on the sidelines of the championship celebrations on Sunday.
There is no club in the world where the topic is addressed in this way. “Contracts are expiring everywhere, but we write about them every day. But I blame the club for putting up with all of you.” His suggestion: “Don’t put up with everything. FC Bayern is currently the plaything of some media and that shouldn’t be the case.”
After the past season with the tenth championship title in a row, only the negative things are in focus. “The whole week we only talk about the contracts or about this or that,” said Hoeneß.
The longtime club boss also has good advice for coach Julian Nagelsmann (34). “He too has to learn that Rome can’t be built in a year. I think he’s achieved what’s important at Bayern: namely the championship. Everyone in the club has to work on it now that Bayern too plays even better internationally than was the case this season.”
