It does not go unnoticed, by virtue of a style that fuses stylistic elements of the past with those of clear aeronautical inspiration. Beyond the image, the Ioniq 6 offers high efficiency and cutting-edge technology

A leap into the past to outline the shapes of the future. The lines of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 are inspired by stylistic concepts of the 1920s and 1930s, but under the streamlined bodywork there is all the electric technology of the Korean company which is completing an Ev range started by the Ioniq 5 crossover and which will soon be completed of the large-size SUV Ioniq 7. An electric sedan that makes efficiency its strong point, to the full advantage of autonomy, offered with a list price starting from 47,550 euros. We tested it on the urban and suburban roads of Madrid.
The design
—
Original design, in which elements of the past merge with concepts of aeronautical derivation: the result can be divisive but it is certainly an element of distinction in a sector that tends to homogenize shapes more and more in the name of a “family feeling” that limits fantasy. The Ioniq 6 has respectable dimensions. It is 4.85 meters long for a width of 1.88 and a height of 1.49 meters, measurements well concealed by sinuous shapes designed to have an aerodynamic penetration coefficient (Cx) equal to 0.21. A great result. Lines inspired by the Prophecy prototype, softened and made less extreme, which rest on the E-Gmp platform, the same as the Ioniq 5.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: the interior
—
The cockpit is a real one lounge, elegant and spacious especially at the rear where passengers can sit on the sofa without constricting their legs, thanks to the 2.85-metre wheelbase and the rationalization of spaces allowed by electric vehicles. Two 12.3” screens support el instrumentation‘infotainment, clearly legible and with clear graphics. The flaps of the dashboard, on the other hand, house two smaller screens oriented towards the driver which project the images of the two external cameras which replace the rear-view mirrors. The on-board system of the Ioniq 6 can be updated remotely in Ota mode (over the air) and integrates the navigator with route planning based on the recharging points and battery preheating. Design and materials of the dashboard spot on, the same cannot be said of the controls located on the central console (including the electric windows) and those under the steering wheel, with a decidedly cheap air. Another flaw is the 401-litre trunk, not much for five people, due to the very sloping tail.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: powertrain and batteries
—
The Ioniq 6 is available in three variants in terms of motors and batteries. It starts from the version with single engine and rear-wheel drive, equipped with a 53.3 kWh battery and a 150 HP (111 kW) engine capable of a torque of 350 Nm and average consumption of 14 kWh per 100 km. We then move on to the 77.4 kWh battery, available in combination with rear-wheel drive with a single 230 HP (168 kW) engine, consumption from 14.3 to 16 kWh/100 km depending on the rims, or with all-wheel drive and two engines (one per axle) for a total of 325 HP with consumption ranging between 15.1 kWh per 100 mm and 16.9 kWh/100 km depending on whether the rims fitted are 18 or 20 inches. Finally, it should be noted that the second model of the Ioniq “family” supports ultra-fast multiple charging (both with 400 Volt and 800 Volt voltages), using a 350 kW charger with which the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: the Ev performance tune-up
—
Technological solutions debuting on the Ioniq 6 include two gems, designed to enhance the on-board experience, favoring that emotional side which, rightly or wrongly, seems to penalize the electric car. The sedan, through the EV Performance Tune-up system, allows the driver extensive personalization by freely intervening on steering resistance, engine power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and, where the car is fitted with two electric motors, also on the traction mode, opting for the automatic one, the rear one or the integral one. The direct intervention on these parameters allows, in fact, to “tailor” the car’s response in relation to your needs. The system too Electric active sound design (e-Asd) plays an important role, replicating a sound similar to that of a spaceship through the amplification of the sound texture in the passenger compartment which changes according to the driving mode of the car.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: how it goes
—
In Madrid we had the opportunity to drive the most powerful version of the Ioniq 6 range: the AWD. Power of 325 HP, a torque of 605 Nm and four-wheel drive make you forget you are behind the wheel of a 2,100 kg car. Brilliant yes, but not bad. The Korean electric sedan offers high-level driving comfort in all conditions, whether you are traveling along one of the avenues of the Iberian capital or one of the extra-urban stretches that touch the villages of the hinterland. The 20″ wheels underline the roughness of the road surface when present, but combined with a basically stiff suspension setting, they guarantee a reassuring sensation of stability at motorway speeds, limiting body roll. On the more tortuous routes you have to keep in mind that you are behind the wheel of a car almost five meters long, which does not claim to be as agile as a small sports car. There are three driving modes, Eco, Normal and Sport, and the ability to adjust the regenerative braking from the buttons on the steering wheel is very popular, which also allows you to activate the “one pedal” mode, to (almost) forget to use the brake and maximize recharging of the battery.
Hyundai Ioniq 6: strengths and weaknesses
—
Pleases:
- high-end build quality;
- possibility to customize the car setup;
- brilliant smooth running.
- poor ergonomics and economic aspect of some controls in the passenger compartment;
- boot capacity not adequate for five people.
