The sustainable designer Sofia Ilmonen presents her new collection at the Berlin Fashion Week.
Ilmonen, who lives and works in Helsinki, is showing her latest designs at Kraftwerk Berlin as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The collection will be presented on March 14th in cooperation with the 36th International Fashion, Photography and Accessories Festival Hyères and Fashion Open Studios.
Ilmonen won the new Mercedes-Benz Eco-Responsible Collection Award at the festival in October. The graduate of the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture showed a collection of romantic, modular dresses. These are made up of squares that snap together with a button and loop mechanism, giving plenty of opportunity to transform and change the pieces. After the festival, the designer planned to further develop her concept and start her own brand. This is now bringing them to the German capital.
She has a clear focus on sustainable design and her design approach is strongly geared towards femininity, which she expresses through her flowing dresses. Ilmonen thus fits perfectly into the image of the Berlin Fashion Week, which also focuses on the topic of sustainability.
“Within the MBFW in Berlin we have a nice range of German designers and international young talents and we continue to focus more on sustainability,” Nowadays Managing Director Marcus Kurz told FashionUnited in August. Nowadays is the organizer behind the MBFW Berlin.
In addition, the collaboration with the Festival Hyères will continue. The cooperation brought Tom van der Borgh to Berlin, among others. The winner of the 35th Festival Hyères opened the fashion week in January last year.
