The new season starts for HV Volendam with a nice showdown. The cup winner will face champion Lions in Houten in the Supercup final on Saturday evening. “I estimate our chances are higher than last year. We may even be the slight favourite,” said trainer Geert Hinskens.
Hinskens speaks of a ‘messy preparation’. For example, a few players had brought injuries from the previous season and some were struggling with minor pains. “Fortunately, you noticed at the end of the preparation that things were going better. We played good practice matches against foreign teams, so hopefully that will be confirmed in the final.”
The 33-year-old Limburger, who starts his second season as a trainer at Volendam on Saturday, has almost a fit selection at his disposal. Oskar Schöll and Lucas Schneider will be missing anyway. “Lucas had a wrist injury and he also has to undergo surgery. We already took that into account and we will have to miss him for a while.”

“That’s certainly nice”, Hinkens confirms, stating that her team has remained largely intact with a number of newcomers. “That is really a world of difference from last year. We had an extremely new team then, of which only one basic player remained. This year we were able to start from a higher level in the preparation and get into the details faster. The new guys are also fairly easy to get in.”
Favorite roll
The trainer of HV Volendam has the feeling that his team and Lions have crept closer together in terms of level. “Our chances are higher than in the final for the championship. I think we are even slightly favourites. It is difficult to estimate because they have a new trainer. Although I expect them to continue on the same footing as last year.”
At the moment the focus is still fully on the final of the Supercup, but next Saturday Volendam will start in the BENE-League against Aalsmeer. “A great start to the season. After those two games you immediately know how the flag hangs. The pressure to start the competition well is also there immediately, then it is nice that you are not playing against a weaker brother.”
final 4
“I think we should try with our reinforcements for a place in the Final 4 of the BENE-League”, Hinskens is convinced. The last time Volendam was in the last four was 2014. “That was quite a long time ago. There will be five or six other teams with the same ambition, so it will be crowded. We belong to that with our qualities.”
NH Sport will be present tomorrow at the Supercup finals of HV Volendam (6 p.m. against Lions) and VOC (3 p.m. against Venlo). Reactions and summaries of both duels can be seen on our channels afterwards.
