Hüttl and Soramies cancel the Germany Cup

Ice hockey national coach Harold Kreis has to do without two other runners-up world champions at the Germany Cup at short notice. Defender Leon Hüttl (ERC Ingolstadt) and striker Samuel Soramies (Augsburger Panther) canceled their participation in the four-country tournament in Landshut due to injury, as did attackers Dominik Bokk (Löwen Frankfurt) and Danjo Leonhardt (Nuremberg Ice Tigers).

Kreis nominated two more debutants, Josef Eham and Luis Üffing from Düsseldorf. Tim Brunnhuber (Straubing Tigers) and Filip Varejcka (EHC Red Bull Munich) were also included in the squad.

This means that there are only two silver medalists from Tampere left in the squad for the home tournament, which begins on Thursday (7:45 p.m./MagentaSport) against Denmark: the strikers Alexander Ehl (Düsseldorfer EG) and Manuel Wiederer (Eisbären Berlin). Six players, however, are with the national team for the first time. The other opponents are Austria and Slovakia.

Women’s national coach Jeff MacLeod also has to reschedule: Her Mannheim teammate Jennifer Miller is in the squad for Lisa Heinz. For the first time, the women’s national team will also be playing its home tournament in the same hall. The eighth place in the World Cup will face Denmark at the start on Wednesday (7:35 p.m./MagentaSport), then Finland and the Czech Republic.
