Next prominent cancellation before the World Championships in Athletics: After the German javelin record holder Johannes Vetter, his discipline colleague Christin Hussong will also not be able to start in the title fights in Eugene (July 15th to 24th).
As the German Athletics Association (DLV) announced on Sunday, the European champion from Zweibrücken will not be taking part.
Previously, the Rheinpfalz reported on Saturday that Hussong had considered their level of performance insufficient after a training camp in Offenburg. With her best performance of the season of 64.87 m thrown in early June, the 28-year-old would have traveled to the World Championships as number four in the world.
In addition to Hussong, long jumper Maryse Luzolo (Königstein) will also be missing. The Tokyo Olympic competitor suffered a ligament injury in her ankle during training. “From a medical point of view there is a small chance of being able to jump into Eugene, but I have decided to recover from the injury in peace here in Germany and to concentrate fully on the home European Championships in Munich,” said Luzolo.
On Wednesday, ex-world champion Johannes Vetter canceled his World Championship start due to a persistent shoulder injury. Two days later, after a few more failures, the DLV nominated a total of seven replacements. The contingent now comprises a total of 80 athletes.
