Hürzeler before extension at FC St. Pauli – will he only stay if promoted?

Rumor about VfB interest

The long wait for the decision as to whether Fabian Hürzeler will extend his expiring contract at FC St. Pauli or not is apparently over. As the “Hamburger Abendblatt” reports, the brown-whites and the 31-year-old successful coach have agreed to expand their collaboration, which will be announced in the coming days.

The topic had always accompanied the second division leader in the past few months. “The basic statement that you can make is certainly – and I emphasize this again and again – the more clarity we have about all the issues that are happening in and around the team, the higher the likelihood that we will use our power “Get the place,” St. Pauli sports director Andreas Bornemann said at the end of January about Hürzeler’s open future. With a seven point lead over the relegation zone, but in view of the unexpected defeat at Schalke last Friday (1:3), the signature of the talented trainer would be one with a signal effect for the remaining ten league games.

Whether this will stop the rumors of a potential move in the summer remains to be seen – at least until promotion is confirmed. The “Abendblatt” speculates about the possibility of an exit clause if this does not work. Reports of interest e.g. B. from Wolfsburg, Hürzeler himself denied this and in this context declared his support for the FCSP. Now “Sport Bild” has thrown him into the extended circle of even bigger names if they lose their coaches in the summer: his profile is on the list at VfB Stuttgart and championship favorite Bayer Leverkusen (all information in the TM article). However, the Hamburger Zeitung emphasized that discussions with interested parties were “at no time” actively held.
