Hunter who liked to show off wild animal trophies himself shot dead in South Africa | Abroad

A South African hunter who ran a hunting safari company and liked to show off photos of shot wild animals has been killed himself. Riaan Naude (55) of Pro Hunt Africa is said to have been murdered by two men when he was standing on the side of the road in Potgietersrus, because his car had overheated.

The facts date back to June 8, but only now it became known through environmental activist Julio César Martínez that the victim was Naude. According to the Heritage Protection Group (HPG) – a non-profit that fights crime and poaching – the victim had stopped to put water in his motorcycle.

“According to an eyewitness, a white car stopped next to him and he was shot at close range. The two suspects then got out and stole only his rifle. Then they jumped back into their car and raced off in the direction of Marken,” HPG wrote on social media. The victim’s personal belongings were still in his car, as were his weapons, ammunition and clothes.

Price

Naude ran Pro Hunt Africa, a company that offers “eco and hunting safaris” in the north of South Africa, close to the Kruger National Park. On the website can be read that you can go hunting for a whole day for 290 euros per person. The price differs depending on the animal you want to hunt: for example, you pay 820 euros for a zebra and 2,000 euros for a crocodile. Whoever wants to hunt a hippo must apply for the prize.

On the social media Pro Hunt Africa contains countless photos of hunters with their prey shot, from gazelles and buffalo, to zebras, giraffes and lions.
