‘Hunger’ for sports facilities: 240 applications for the Credito Sportivo and Anci tenders

A real boom in requests: the commitment is for 170 million euros. There is still time to submit applications: the deadline expires on December 5th

“Hunger” for sports facilities. The Sport Missione Comune and Cultura Missione Comune 2023 tenders promoted by the Institute for Sports Credit in collaboration with Anci have been a boom. More than 240 applications were submitted by local authorities for a total of 170 million euros. More than a third of the resources allocated to Sport have therefore been exhausted, while we are at full capacity for the culture tender. There is still time for local authorities to submit applications until December 5th. It is also a sign that the Pnrr, despite intervening with 700 million for widespread sports facilities and 300 for the renovation or construction of school gyms (but for a very small percentage of the overall allocations, for sport there is only 0.5 percent), obviously failed to respond to all the requests coming from the territory. Furthermore, a territory where the gap between North and South is stated in an almost ruthless manner in the “sportsmanship” ranking published by the Sole 24 Ore.

THE CHALLENGE

However, the numbers of participation in the tenders demonstrate the willingness of Municipalities, Unions of Municipalities, Metropolitan Cities, Provinces and Regions to invest in sports infrastructures through the mechanism of requests to take advantage of interest rate contributions for financing intended for interventions on sports and cultural infrastructures which allow a total reduction in the interest rate on mortgages. Now there is the other challenge: the ability to operationally translate the resources to build or renovate the sports facilities.

NEW FUNDS

Meanwhile, ICS and Anci are working to find other funds. “The local authorities, thanks to our tenders – says the new president of Credito Sportivo, Beniamino Quintieri – have been able to redevelop new sports and cultural facilities with important benefits in terms of savings and sustainability and with a positive impact for the entire country system. The social return of these investments, calculated through the Delta platform, represents an important value for local communities”. Roberto Pella, deputy vice-president of the ANCI, recalls that “a total of 2,907 sports construction sites have opened throughout Italy for a total of over one billion euros”.
