Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held a press conference during which he clearly outlined Budapest’s priorities. In particular, he noted that Hungary has no problems with paying for gas in rubles. And he made a few more statements, to which both the leaders of Western countries and Ukraine react sharply.
This morning at the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Hungary began with bad news. The Ambassador of the Square was summoned to the carpet at the Foreign Ministry. The reason was the insulting passage of the Ukrainian authorities against the Hungarian leadership.
“Statements about the establishment of a totalitarian regime, complicity in the war and regret about the election results are unacceptable. It’s time for Ukrainian leaders to stop insulting Hungary and take note of the will of the Hungarian people,” said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
On Sunday, parliamentary elections were held in Hungary, as a result of which Prime Minister Viktor Orban remained in his post. However, literally on the eve of the vote, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said: a call was received from Kyiv to the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest. The soil was probed by Dmitry Kuleba, finding out whether it is possible to influence the result. Which, of course, overflowed the cup of patience. And in his victory speech, Orban said: several external forces were pressing at once, including the Ukrainian leader.
“We will remember this victory until the end of our days, because we have to fight with a large number of rivals – the “left”, the bureaucrats of Brussels, the money and institutions of the Soros empire, the international mainstream media, as well as the Ukrainian president,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said. .
Relations between Budapest and Kyiv are rapidly collapsing. Zelensky repeatedly publicly asked Orban to help Ukraine, but was always refused. Hungary did not join the sanctions against Russian energy resources, did not transfer weapons to Ukraine and did not allow their delivery through its territory. Despite a flurry of criticism and a direct ultimatum to choose a side, the Hungarian Prime Minister did not succumb to the provocation. Because he does not want to risk the lives and safety of the Hungarian people.
“They are asking for NATO intervention, the start of an air war, the supply of weapons. However, we are not Ukrainians, we are not Russians, we are Hungarians. To the question “Which side is Hungary on?” The answer is: “Hungary is on the side of Hungary,” the prime minister said. Hungarian Minister Viktor Orban.
The position of Hungary towards Russia is now the most moderate among the countries of NATO and the European Union. Which only adds to the headache of European officials. An attempt to impose on Budapest a rejection of Russian gas, on which the country’s energy and industry depend, has failed. Moreover, even payment in rubles is not a problem.
“We have no difficulty paying in rubles. If the Russians ask, we will pay in rubles,” says Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Hungary has had to withstand the blow from the moment Russia launched its special operation in Ukraine. We have to defend our national interests under the most severe pressure. Budapest can become an outcast in the European space. The European Union is already threatening to withdraw funding. Officially – because of “undermining the standards of the rule of law of the bloc.”
“We sent a letter and, after carefully evaluating the results of the responses from Hungary, we came to the conclusion that we should move on to the next step. The European Commissioner has already talked to the Hungarian authorities and informed them about the launch of the rule of law mechanism against them,” he comments on the situation. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
We are talking about corruption – said von der Leyen, showing the same letter to the MEPs and not going into details. Brussels accuses the Orbán government of allowing EU funds to “leak through dark channels.” In Budapest, all accusations are denied, realizing that the anti-corruption investigation is just another reason to put pressure on the country. And, most likely, the pressure will increase. Viktor Orban said today that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine can be held in Budapest. According to the prime minister, Vladimir Putin he has already invited.
