Hungarian president invites Orban to form new government | Abroad

Hungarian President Janos Ader invited Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday to follow a new government after the elections in early April. This is reported by the Hungarian state media.

Orban has been in power continuously since 2010. His right-wing nationalist party Fidesz obtained a clear majority in the elections on April 3, taking 135 of the 199 seats in parliament. This allows the party to make changes to the constitution. Parliament will meet on Monday for the constitutional session.

Orban is entering his fourth consecutive term as prime minister, and his fifth overall. He remains a controversial figure within the European Union. He finds that he has eroded democracy and the rule of law in Hungary over the past 12 years.
