Hundreds of Ukrainian refugees welcome in Bruges monastery
The war in Ukraine has left a large number of people on the run. Many people also seek shelter in our country. That is why construction group Camino went in search of shelters together with the city of Bruges. Pending a permit for the redevelopment of the Karmelitessen Monastery in Schuttersstraat, reception areas will be provided there.
Great solidarity
All necessary utilities are available in the monastery and there is also a large kitchen from the past. There is also a large courtyard where children can play. “We notice that a lot of people from Bruges show solidarity with families from Ukraine who are fleeing the war in their country. We can hardly imagine that we have and keep all our possessions and have to leave our family behind because we are no longer safe in our own house,” says ships Demon.
“Together with the private sector, we are now joining forces to provide a safe, temporary home to war refugees.” The shelter is still available until the end of this year.
