More than 200 trucks took part in the Truckrun Horst on Sunday, a trip of about three hours in which people with disabilities ride along with truckers.
By honking, waving and partying, it is an unforgettable day for all co-drivers in the 225 trucks.
‘Awesome’
Kevin Jakobs (17) is lucky. His uncle Theo Jakobs is a truck driver. So it is not the first time that he is in a high cabin. But riding in the long procession of Truckrun is very special. “It’s great to be in the truck on this day and honk and wave to everyone along the way.”
fans
Accompanied by motorcycles, the trucks make a trip through the North Limburg countryside. They don’t drive on the highways. In villages, people stand on the sidewalk to wave at the honking string. “Yes, they are all fans,” says Rens. He can ride in the cab of driver Ricardo.
Volunteers
“We’ve really been looking forward to this,” says Henk Thielen of the Truckrun Foundation. Due to corona, this event for people with disabilities could not take place earlier. “The drivers are happy, the co-drivers are happy and so are the sponsors because everyone is working on this voluntarily, which is fantastic.”
Driver Theo Jakobs also enjoys the ride. “It’s such a satisfaction to see all those happy faces from the boys and girls. Beautiful.”
