Hundreds of people walk in support march for Ukraine | 1Limburg

Due to the war in Ukraine, several hundred people joined a peace march in Roermond on Sunday.

Participants of the support march walked through the city with yellow-blue flags and flowers.

‘Jet black page’
Prior to the tour, Deputy Mayor Marianne Smitsmans addressed everyone. “Since last Thursday there has been a new reality in our Europe. Security and stability suddenly look very different. A jet-black page in our history,” said Smitsmans. “What does this war mean for our safety and life? Residents offer space for the reception of refugees. Residents call that they have a room left. Heartwarming”, she thinks.

Protesters also laid a wreath at the steps of the town hall on the Markt. Furthermore, the Ukrainian national anthem sounded through Roermond and a minute of silence was observed.

Solidarity with Ukraine
The organization hoped this event would send a “powerful message of peace”, but also a “signal of compassion, tolerance and tolerance”.

Protest in Maastricht
Furthermore, about 150 people gathered on the Markt in Maastricht to protest against the war. A protest was also held there last week.
