Hundreds of OpenAI employees are threatening to resign unless all current members of the board of directors leave. This is stated in a letter from the staff. The letter was signed by 500 of OpenAI’s approximately 770 employees. They threaten to follow fired CEO Sam Altman to Microsoft.
Last Friday, CEO Sam Altman of ChatGPT parent company OpenAI was unexpectedly fired, because the OpenAI board had lost confidence in him. According to the board, he was not always candid in his communications, according to a statement. OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman subsequently resigned in protest over Altman’s own dismissal.
Altman will now work at the software group Microsoft, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced. According to Nadella, Altman will join departed OpenAI chairman Brockman in leading a new team that will focus on cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence.
In the letter, OpenAI staff indicate that they cannot work “with people who demonstrate a lack of competence and concern for our mission and employees.” They demand a new board of directors and the return of Altman and Brockman. If this is not met, employees will consider switching to Microsoft. “Microsoft has assured us that there are jobs for all Open AI employees.”
