Due to the persistent drought, the water level in certain parts of the blanket is very low. This makes the quality of the stationary water poor and there is a shortage of oxygen in the water, which leads to this massive fish mortality. The fire brigade of the Westhoek zone has been creating hundreds of fish out of the water in recent days, but even today, many dead fish are flocking up again.
