Hundreds of dead seals have washed up on the Caspian coast in the Russian republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus. The Russian authorities are talking today about a discovery of 650 to 700 carcasses in the capital Makhachkala. Why the animals died is unclear. An investigation is underway.
