About a hundred people with a small grant have registered to receive a free ticket for the theater performance about Boer Koekoek. Hoogeveen politicians called for maps to be made available for minima. In total there are a thousand places to forgive.
The price for a ticket is now 65 euros each. “It would be nice if more people signed up for a ticket,” said alderman Mark Tuit of the municipality of Hoogeveen. “For example, families who cannot go on holiday, but for whom such an outing can be very nice in the summer. So that is possible for free.”
The municipality of Hoogeveen makes the tickets available together with the province of Drenthe and the producer of the performance. People can register via Stichting Welzijnswerk Hoogeveen. Interested parties can also get a ticket from the village cooperative in Hollandscheveld.
“We are trying to tap into even more channels, because there are still quite a few tickets left. Anyone in the municipality can register. We don’t make it too difficult if you live just across the municipal border,” says Tuit. “There will be performances all summer, so we expect more people to want a ticket.”
From mid-July to the end of August, the play can be seen in a warehouse in Hollandscheveld. In it, a link is made between the recent farmers’ protests and the farmers’ revolt of 1963 in Hollandscheveld. That revolt led to the rise of the politician farmer Koekoek.
There is room for a thousand people per performance. According to producer Wolter Lommerde, more than 10,000 tickets have now been sold. “The performances are not yet sold out, but we are ahead of our calculations. We are happy with the number that has been sold.”
The organization always makes a calculation in terms of ticket sales and whether it covers the costs. “It is always a financial risk, such a performance. In this case it looks good and we are very satisfied so far.”
The play will premiere on Saturday. The last few days were the try-outs. “It hit the audience well,” continues Lommerde. “The actors were still a bit nervous, which is of course also a bit exciting for the first time with the audience.”
