Very strange: Humberto Tan does not yet see RTL Tonight as a failed project, despite the fact that the viewing figures are terribly bad and the program is hardly discussed. What does the viewer think?
Humberto Tan agrees that things are not going well with RTL Tonight, but he still does not want to call it a flop. “So far things are not going well, and we are disappointed about that. We will take stock in two to three months. But no, I don’t think it is a failed project yet,” said the 60-year-old TV presenter.
Shelf life
Is Humberto limitlessly naive or is he just trying to right what is wrong? Smooth talk, the TV viewer thinks. They really put the presenter through the wringer in the response module NU.nl. “It just turned out to be a bad program. The format doesn’t catch on, but the standard guests don’t add much either,” says one Ab.
One Tony is relentless. “Humberto Tan’s shelf life has already passed for a number of years. He was certainly a fresh face in the media landscape, until he started to think he was great. And that is a shame.”
Quality
Raven finds Humberto lazy. “Well, you may be disappointed about the disappointing viewing figures, but you will first have to deliver more quality and think carefully about who you allow to come to your table if you want to attract more viewers. You won’t make it by just having sidekicks who think they know everything about everything take a seat.”
And a certain Schrijver thought the old RTL talk show was better. “I used to always watch. Since the new setting with the raised platform where the ‘interpreters’ sit on like a kind of jury or judges, I no longer find it interesting. Too many people who feel important and have to share their knowledge.”
Tip for Verlinde
Those ‘experts’ don’t work, says this viewer. “Let Humberto and colleagues work on topics they find interesting, come across in the news and ask substantive questions to guests. I think they are very good at that. In any case, I recommend this way of talking program. Tip for Verlinde, go back into the theater…”
One GB2 concludes: “This program was doomed to failure even before it started. You are not going to change this anymore. They should not have the illusion that they could have been as good as Today Inside. They cannot be matched.”
