Humberto Tan cannot save Saturday’s talk show, RTL stops

Humberto Tan failed to save RTL 4’s Saturday late night show. Where he and colleague Renze Klamer do score on Sunday, RTL has now decided to discontinue the Saturday edition.

RTL 4 stops broadcasting a late talk show seven days a week after six months. Humberto Tan and Renze Klamer have not succeeded in making the Saturday edition a success and that is why the channel stops. Humberto will finish the current series and when Renze returns in mid-April, only Sunday will remain.

RTL stops

RTL 4’s Sunday talk show is quite successful: 661 thousand people (16 percent market share) watched Humberto on Zondag yesterday. The night before, Humberto attracted 518 thousand viewers (12 percent) on Saturday.

A spokesperson for RTL says: “We hear around us and see that viewers on Saturday need a different form of entertainment than a talk show. From mid-April, we will therefore stop the late-night talk show on Saturday evenings and we will only hold our weekend show on Sunday.”

Pull it

Humberto was asked a few weeks ago about the meager scores of the Saturday edition. “We have to work on that. How? Good guests, lots of energy, cheerfulness. I think Saturday night is just a little bit more entertainment,” he said at the time.

Humberto’s Saturday talk show will remain on the tube until mid-April. When Renze takes over on April 16, there will only be Renze on Sunday.

Dionne on one

On to prime time: Humberto’s ex-girlfriend Dionne Stax was the big winner yesterday with more than 1.3 million viewers (26 percent) for De Nieuwe Vermeer on NPO 1. Immediately afterwards, De Stamhouder had 939 thousand (21 percent).

RTL 4 takes silver with 942 thousand viewers (19 percent) for The Floor. Furthermore, NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (573 thousand) and SBS 6’s Stegeman op de Bres (489 thousand) were the most popular. Viktor Brands IJsmeesters attracted only 291 thousand viewers (6 percent).
