Tesla seeks collaborators for humanoid robot program
As elektrok reports, the US company Tesla is currently looking for new employees. Already several weeks ago Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, have made it clear that the humanoid robot program, dubbed “Optimus,” has become a priority for the electric carmaker’s development teams. This is also reflected in the company’s latest hiring plans. Positions up for grabs include senior architect for humanoid mechatronic robotics, mechanical engineer actuator integration Tesla Bot, electrical engineer for modeling humanoid propulsion systems, and program manager for actuators tesla bot.
Tesla’s plan when it comes to robotics is to use some of its existing expertise to build the robot. As Musk explains at AI Days, Tesla is already one of the largest robotics companies in the world because the company’s electric cars are already “robots on wheels.” Also, according to elektrek, the Tesla CEO stated that Tesla could play a role in the realization of artificial general intelligence (AGI) through the humanoid robot project.
This is known about Optimus
Optimus should initially be used primarily in the world of work. As Musk explains in more detail at the AI Days, the robot should be used to get rid of repetitive, dangerous or boring tasks. The robot’s “face” will have a screen on which useful information can be read, and it will be about the size and weight of an adult human. With a total of eight cameras and the company’s autopilot system, Optimus should be able to move through the world. Musk also explains that the humanoid robot, like Tesla’s cars, will be powered by batteries, electric motors, actuators and power electronics. The company plans to present a first prototype at the AI Days in September this year. In 2023, the first robots are supposed to come onto the market.
Tesla competitor Xiaomi is also working on humanoid robots
But not only the US company deals with humanoid robots. The Tesla competitor Xiaomi is also active in this area. The Chinese company presented the “CyberOne” during a live event from Beijing. The humanoid robot was able to walk across the stage and communicate with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. As the company explains on its website, the CyberOne should also be able to recognize human emotions.
