The human remains that were found on Tuesday at a business park in Hoorn have been identified by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). Research shows that it is indeed the body of Sumanta Bansi.
The 42-year-old Manodj B. from Hoorn was born in July 2022 sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing Sumanta and making her pregnant body disappear.
Sumanta disappeared from her hometown in Hoorn in February 2018. She had a secret relationship with Manodj and was pregnant with him for the second time in the year of her disappearance. The year before, she committed an abortion under pressure from the B. family. But this time she intended to keep the baby.
Father and son
On February 18, 2018, the pregnant Sumanta disappeared without a trace and was never heard from again. The police assumed a crime and designated Manodj and his father Dwarka B. as suspects.
In recent years, the police have searched various places for Sumanta’s body, but nothing has been found each time. Her body was found the day before yesterday at a business park in Hoorn, the place Manodj designated earlier that day.
The lawyer of Sumanta’s parents, Maartje Schaap, says that her family is shocked by the news. “It’s an emotional rollercoaster. Somehow they saw it coming, given the history, but this confirmation is very touching.”
The family is left with many questions. “The uncertainty is gone and now a grieving process can begin. But we still don’t know what happened, how her body got there and who was involved.”
Last resting place
The police and the Public Prosecution Service are continuing to investigate this case. In the interest of the investigation, no further announcements will be made at this time.
Her parents want to give Sumanta’s body a final resting place in Suriname. “This may take some time due to the investigation, but we are working behind the scenes to find out when we can arrange this.”
