Huizer mayor still holds cards to his chest about threats and explosion

Not all the details, but a good overview. That is what the Huizer mayor Niek Meijer could give to the Huizer city council. The local ChristenUnie wanted all details about the series of threats to two addresses on the Roef, in order to gain more clarity about the current situation.

Huizen has been turned upside down for some time after Mayor Niek Meijer suddenly closed two homes on the Roef two months ago after an unknown security threat. The residents were brought to safety at an unknown location and security was increased in the area.

After a scaling down, an explosive went off at one of the two homes a week later. Now the homes are still locked and visible and invisible security measures are still in place.

Cards on the table

Much is therefore still unclear in connection with ongoing investigations by the police and the judiciary. The mayor held the cards tight to his chest to avoid getting in the way of the investigators. However, the Huizer ChristenUnie wanted more clarity about the current situation, because they notice that ‘citizens feel their sense of safety affected by the situation and wonder what else could happen.’

That is why the party asked the mayor to put the cards on the table now. The mayor came with a timeline of what happened between the beginning of July and mid-August, respectively the moment when the police and the judiciary gave urgent advice to close the houses and the last closing order.

But Mayor Meijer did not go into the situation much deeper than this overview. He also does not want to disrupt the ongoing investigation. ChristenUnie councilor Wessel Doorn says that he is satisfied with the overview and the answers to the questions. “As far as we’re concerned, it was pretty concrete.”
