Sevening at 9.15pm on first TV on Rai 5 goes on air Hui He, a soprano from the Silk Road. The film was produced in collaboration with Rai Cinema it was presented in 2017 in Venice and is part of the project The new Silk Road – The new Silk Roadwhich aims to build a cultural and economic bridge between China and Europe.

Wings and roots. We start from this ancestral union to tell the career of Hui He, but also his background. The directors Andrea Prandstraller and Niccolò Bruna they choose this path, in order to bringing two ancient and distant civilizations closer together through the universal power of music.
We start from the most difficult test, when she decides to enter a soprano competition with very little time to prepare. The teacher warns her: no one has ever prepared an exam quickly. Hui, however, is tenacious, and knows that this is his path.
The facts prove her right and, in a short time, she begins her climb towards success. In just a few years she conquered audiences and critics, becoming one of the most famous sopranos in the world. Today’s images mix with those of a teenager with great hopes, full of self-sacrifice, willpower and tenacity. And, eventually, he returns to China, ahead of Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi, with Plácido Domingo.
A trip that acts as an internal journey. In Xi’an – the city where she was born and raised and which represents the end of the Silk Road – she finds family warmth again. Lunches and dinners with family, with friends, a dive into Chinese traditions. Who is Hui He, from China to the most important theaters in the world
Hui He was born in 1972. Her encounter with opera occurred at the age of 18. The emotions provoked by listening to the Bohemian by Giacomo Puccini are a shock. He begins to study opera singing and in 2000 she came second in Operalia, The World Opera Competition. It is an annual competition for young opera singers, founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo. The following year he won the first prize of the competition Verdi’s voices of Busseto, in the province of Parma.
It is the beginning of a career that leads her to perform on the most important stages in the world. At the Teatro Regio in Parma she made her debut in Tosca by Puccini, followed by Alziraby Giuseppe Verdi. For Franco Zeffirelli it is Aida, before arriving in France with Madame Butterfly and in Austria with Stiffelioin which she plays Lina. In 2006 he made his debut at La Scala in Milan with Tosca directed by Lorin Maazelwhile the following year it was Madama Butterfly again, under the direction of South Korean Chung Myung-whun.
So in 2010 he flew overseas and performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York again inAida and subsequently wins the Opera Oscars at the Verona Arena. Last spring starred in Richard Wagner’s opera The flying Dutchman with the role of Sentawhile in August he made his debut on the stage of the Teatro Antico in Taormina with Tosca.
