The Netherlands is struggling with an extremely low water level in the rivers. Too little water is supplied from Germany and Switzerland. The Rhine even reached its lowest water level ever on Thursday. That came as no surprise because not much rain was expected in the river basin, let alone meltwater on the way.
All the more striking that the water in the Maas near Grave – a rain river – is indeed high and has taken up about seven or eight meters of the Loswal. Although the Meuse has a different catchment area, it originates in France and flows through Belgium to the Netherlands. But also in those countries: no supply from the air.
