Hugo Boss signs Pakistan Accord on workplace safety

Fashion supplier Hugo Boss has signed the Pakistan Accord, an international agreement for health and safety in the textile and clothing industry in Pakistan.

The company from Metzingen has already signed the International Accord together with around 190 other clothing brands and global trade unions in the past and is now also committed to the Pakistan Accord. The Pakistan Accord is the first international successor to the Bangladesh Accord. This was developed ten years ago as a consequence of the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh to increase safety in the country’s textile factories. The Bangladesh Accord was so successful that it was extended to Pakistan earlier this year.

“We take the fair and ethical treatment of our employees, suppliers and partners worldwide very seriously and look forward to supporting the improvement of working conditions in Pakistan through the implementation of the Pakistan Accord,” says Yves Müller, CFO and COO of Hugo Boss AG .

The Pakistani agreement contains all the important features of the international agreement and promotes safety at work and in the buildings for an initial period of three years. Measures taken at suppliers include independent inspections, the initiation of remedial measures, the introduction of an independent grievance mechanism and training programs for employees.

Together with the other signatories, Hugo Boss intends to provide funds to “support the successful implementation of the Pakistan Accord and to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of occupational safety measures in the Pakistani clothing and textile sector,” according to the statement.
