Hugo Boss will launch its own resale platform in the third quarter. The Metzingen fashion group announced on Thursday that there will be a selection of used clothing on the “Hugo Boss Pre-Loved” platform.
The platform will initially start in France, and by 2025 the resale model will also be rolled out in Germany, Great Britain and the USA. In addition, the platform is limited to clothing for the time being, later accessories may be included in the range.
Hugo Boss obtains the second-hand goods via a simple system: customers are given the opportunity to hand in their used clothing in the stores. They are credited with an equivalent value that they can use to buy new or used clothing from Hugo Boss. The credit can be redeemed both online and in the Boss and Hugo stores in the respective country.
“As a premium supplier, we manufacture high-quality products that are designed to last a long time – even with changing owners. Entering the growing resale market is therefore a natural step for us as a company,” says Heiko Schäfer, Chief Operation Officer of Hugo Boss. “Hugo Boss Pre-Loved is an important building block on our journey to a circular economy model.”
Future plans for circularity
With the launch of the resale platform, Hugo Boss is pursuing its sustainability efforts, which were defined as part of its Claim 5 strategy. In the growth strategy, announced in August 2021, the company laid out its future goals – which strongly address Gen Z’s needs for experiences, relevance and sustainability in the shopping experience.
In addition to the resale platform, Hugo Boss will offer a care & repair service in selected stores in Germany for suits, jeans, shoes, jersey goods and leather goods over the course of the year. This is intended to extend the lifespan of products – and conversely to reduce the consumption of resources.
In late April, the company will also launch a product line that meets its three internal requirements for circularity: made from “renewable or recycled materials, recyclable and built to last.” By 2030, Hugo Boss intends to produce eight out of ten products in the range in a recyclable manner.
