“Huge happiness” after Böllerwurf in Hamburg

According to the Hamburg club, there were no injuries when a firecracker was thrown in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga between FC St. Pauli and SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

“A suspect has been caught,” a club spokesman announced during half-time of the game.

Immediately after Elias Saad made it 1-0 (30th minute) for FC St. Pauli, a firecracker flew from the stands and detonated near the hosts’ dugout. The game was briefly interrupted. The suspected thrower was quickly identified.

“I was actually really lucky because I actually wanted to run over and throw it away,” said coach Fabian Hürzeler. St. Pauli’s equipment supervisor Kenta Kambara stood near the detonation and appeared briefly dazed, but was uninjured. “Kenta is doing well,” said Hürzeler. “Kenta is Japanese and tough.”

St. Pauli fans in particular vented their anger about the suspect on social media. “If you throw a firecracker at your own bank, you can fuck off!” said a post on X.
