Early Wednesday morning a huge fire raged at a car dealership on Jan Frederik Vlekkestraat in Roosendaal. The company has almost completely burned out, the Central and West Brabant Safety Region announced around six o’clock. At that time the fire brigade had the fire under control. For a while there was a huge sea of flames.
Not only the property itself should be considered lost. Several cars inside and outside were also destroyed by the fire. In total there are about forty cars.
The fire brigade tried to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding businesses. She was therefore present with a lot of manpower and equipment to fight the fire. For example, four fire engines and additional water trucks were deployed. It is not yet entirely clear at around a quarter past six whether other buildings were also affected by the fire. But the fire brigade’s intention to prevent this seems to have succeeded.
Re-extinguishing will take some time
Around six o’clock, the safety region indicated that the fire brigade would continue to extinguish the fire for several hours. Firefighters also checked surrounding buildings at that time.
During subsequent extinguishing, smoke may still be released, as was the case with the fire earlier. This smoke can spread considerably because there is still a lot of wind. Inhaling smoke is unhealthy. The advice remains, even after six hours, to stay away from smoke and, in case of smoke nuisance, to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off ventilation.
The fire started around four o’clock. Nothing is yet known about the cause. As far as we know, no one was injured.
