About three hundred jerry cans with suspected drug waste were discovered on Roosendaalsebaan in Achtmaal on Monday morning. The police talk about a large drug dumping and talk about pollution of the soil and surface water.
Because of the dumping, forest ranger Erik de Jonge was beeped awake by the fire brigade at a quarter past five in the morning. “Awful, what a mess again!”, he sighs on Twitter.
Spokesperson Maarten Brink of the ACP police union also reacts indignantly. He mainly mentions the high costs for society of cleaning up the mess.

The barrels were dumped in the Oud Buisse Heide, a very well-known nature reserve in West Brabant. Reporter Willem-Jan Joachems speaks of three dumpings. “Two in a dry ditch and one in a ditch with water. At least 150 barrels are floating on that water. At least four jerry cans in that wet ditch have burst open. You see a green layer on the water, that is the pollution. There is also a slight chemical smell. This is really going to be a terrible remediation…”
