Passengers at Schiphol must take extra long waiting times into account. The crowds are huge on Monday due to the shortage of security personnel. “And that is on top of the staff shortage that we are already dealing with,” a spokesperson told NU.nl.
“It is a very busy day at Schiphol. We therefore advise passengers to follow the advice of their airline and, if necessary, to get to the airport on time.”
Schiphol cannot indicate what the average waiting time is at the moment. “In some cases it’s a few hours. People have to wait a very long time when they enter the security funnel.”
Due to a staff shortage at various places at Schiphol and a wild strike by baggage staff, major problems arose at the airport at the beginning of the May holiday.
Schiphol expects to have to deal with the same passenger flow in the coming period towards the summer holidays. “We need more security guards, but those people have to be trained first. That takes time,” said the spokesperson.
