HSV President Jansen still believes in promotion

Despite falling out of the promotion ranks, club president Marcell Jansen still has hope for Hamburger SV’s return to the Bundesliga.

“We were already first, we already had buffers. Now it’s a bit the other way around,” said the former professional footballer to “SID” at the SPOBIS Conference in Hamburg.

Due to the home defeat against Karlsruher SC (3:4), HSV slipped to fourth place in the 2nd league on Sunday. “Now we have to make sure we take the next step,” said Jansen. However, it is “again only a snapshot if we manage to do it”.

There are “no rules” in the promotion race; the decisive factor is the placement “at the end. And it’s been very, very close in the last few years.” Last year, Hamburg had to go into relegation for the second time in a row and failed at VfB Stuttgart. “We should draw strength from this disappointment,” says Jansen.

On Saturday evening (8.30 p.m./Sky and Sport1) “a great game awaits Hertha BSC. It’s about setting an example again. I hope we can make up for the cup.” HSV was unfortunately eliminated in Berlin in the round of 16 (3:5 iE).
