Mauricio Macri believes that the winds have definitely changed. That the number of messages that reach his cell phone, with requests for meetings and consultations of all kinds, are irrefutable proof that he was able to leave behind the management errors that prevented him from getting reelected. He is confident.
He returned to the tours of the Greater Buenos Aires and has an agenda full of meetings with leaders of the PRO of all country. In addition, in this context, he is preparing a launch that will be the kick-off for the upcoming campaign, whether he is a candidate or not: his second book, “Why?”, will be published at the end of October.
Editorial work. His former Minister of Culture, Paul Avelluto, is in charge of giving the final corrections to a text that is already in the editing stage. It will be, among other things, a compilation of the presentations of macri in the universities of the world and will be published, as his first work, by Editorial Planeta.
Just like they did with “First time”, they chose an open title that allows them to play with various interpretations. “Why would we go back”, some venture. “Why did we do what we did”, others question. These are some of the opinions that are collected in the yellow circle. macri he wants the book to lay institutional, power and leadership foundations. “Mauricio repeats that we have to follow ideas, not people. This book is the ideas of him as one of the leaders of Together for Change”, explains one of his shipowners. He wants to transform it into a road map for space.
Although the former president does not stop making trips to the interior of the country -in fact, at the close of this edition he was going to Córdoba, one of his favorite destinations-, the book will allow him to disguise the 2023 publishing campaign: the doctrine “Sincerely ” of Cristina Kirchner. It will be a good excuse to travel without having to submit to the obligatory question about whether you are doing it as a candidate or not. “Destinations or dates are not defined, but we are going to do it,” they say in their inner circle.
With the editorial decision to publish before the World Cup begins, a second book was postponed in which macri worked: the biography of his father, Franco. The former president had confessed that he wanted to tell “the truth” about the Italian businessman who “came to the country at the age of 17, without knowing anyone, and became the number one businessman in the country,” as he presented the idea. The political crisis of front of all rushed the other project.
Politics. If there are no major setbacks, macri he wants to make the decision of whether or not to be a candidate only in March or April. “It is not speculation”, they defend it in their environment. And they add: “First, he is not convinced, and then he will see if the numbers give him. In addition, it would not be worth discouraging the work that Horacio, Patricia and even María Eugenia have been doing.”
Is that macri believes that, if he finally launches into the presidential race, a primary would no longer make sense, at least in the PRO. His potential competitors are not so sure and are uncomfortable with the former president’s aspiration. Larreta repeats in each meeting in which he is consulted that he is already listed on the starting grid, regardless of what he does Macri. That is why he continues with his national armed forces and begins to get involved in the interior’s agenda. For example, days ago he asked to “defend the democracy of San Juan” before a project to establish the law of slogans in that province.
Patricia Bullrich is also expectant. Her place as her candidate is even more complicated if Macri gets into the ring, but she remains convinced not to get out. She continues to unfold an important agenda that led her, in the last week, to meet with the former president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe.
On Wednesday 24, in a Zoom meeting, macri and his collaborators remembered what had happened exactly three years ago. “That’s where the historic comeback began and we began to tour the country,” Hernán Lombardi recalled to the other attendees. He was referring to the night in which thousands of militants approached the Plaza de Mayo, shouting “yes, we can”, after the heavy defeat of Together for Change in the PASO of 2019. Since that day, the former president seeks to rebuild his image. The book will be a fundamental part of that work.
