Adele answered a whole series of questions in a talk format on October 25 – including how to pronounce her name correctly. Various short videos were played in the live stream and so a listener began her question with the words “Hey Adele”, whereupon the singer said in astonishment: “She actually pronounced my name perfectly.” The woman who asked the question, like Adele, is from London.
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, as the singer is called by her full name, further explained: Adele is pronounced “Uh-dale” and not “Ah-dell”. So the stress is on the second syllable. Listen for yourself:
When asked how her self-perception changed between her album 25 and the follow-up 30, both named after her age, she replied: “During 25 my life was very controlled. I had just had my son. […] I felt very safe in my private life. At 30 I had to accept that I had no idea what I was doing. I had no control over my life. […] The only thing that distracted me from that was knowing I could go into the studio [und Singen]because I just love singing.”
The 34-year-old also opened up about whether she’d ever pursue a theater career, to which she only replied that she’s “not a big Broadway fan”. However, she could envision playing the role of Mama Rose from the musical Gypsy. “I loved the role of the mother in it. She sings a song where she says “I wanted to do all this” and she is jealous of her own daughter and is very upset about it. At one point she was just a bitch, which I could very well play.”
Their 2011 album 21 has sold over 31 million copies worldwide the best-selling album of the 21st century. This is followed by HYBRID THEORY by Linkin Park, THE EMINEM SHOW by Eminem and COME AWAY WITH ME by Norah Jones, each with over 27 million units.
Adele was also honored with The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire award in June 2013. The British Order of Chivalry has five ranks, of which she was given the lowest rank of a member.
Adele’s current album 30 was released in November 2021 and then stayed at number 1 in various charts for many weeks and achieved platinum status several times – only in Germany, unlike its predecessors, has this not happened so far.
