Pright products, quality brush and excellent hair dryer: to obtain a perfect fold at home you have to “steal” some tricks of the trade from hairstylists. Alex Cappelletti, salon director by Toni&Guy Bologna, he says how to dry straight, wavy and curly hair.
How to dry your hair: the steps you need to know
«Perfect drying starts with correct cleansing, which must be done with products suitable for your hair type and styling you want to achieve» the expert begins to explain.
«There are, for example, some excellent treatment lines that they eliminate the frizz effect helping in the success of the foldespecially when done with a brush. After washing your hair, it is important to eliminate as much water as possible by dabbing with a towel, preferably in microfiber: this step it will speed up drying times and reduce product dispersion that they will stay more focused.
«Even in the pre-styling routine, the use of the right products is essential: essential, for example, a thermoprotector in cream or spray to protect the hair fiber during drying».
How to use brush and hair dryer
«Pre-drying with a hair dryer, with the use of a brush, can significantly reduce styling times. There however, the brush must always be chosen on the basis of the type of hair and the type of effect to be obtainedand it is important to remember that a single tool cannot be used for the entire hair» explains the expert.
At the end of the pre-drying you can divide the hair into more or less large sections. «These will then be worked on with the brush taking care to keep the hair dryer at a safe distance so as not to burn the keratin of the stems. Once the fold is finished, it is advisable pass the cold air blow dryer over all the hair, to give the hair shine» continues the expert.
Straight hair: how to get a “silk effect”
«Here too, everything starts with choosing the right products: a straightening cream it will help the style and protect the hair from high temperatures».
“It is good dry the hair in the direction of growth – that is, always aiming the air jet from the root towards the ends – to better close the cuticles and give more shine. As for the choice of brushes, those are the best round with a natural bristle: because they stretch the stem in a gentler and softer way, obtaining the classic silk effect».
“The advice is to work on small strandsstarting from the root of the stem and directing the air jet towards the tips. The bigger the brush, the straighter the lock will end up being. Conversely, brushes with a smaller diameter will give a curved and rounded effect».
«Finally, you can use the flat iron for finishing touches. In this case, the use of a thermoprotective spray is recommended, which will protect and fix the styling. Finally, it is possible to apply a few drops of oil on the tips to eliminate static electricity.
Wavy hair: techniques and tips for long lasting waves
«The best way to create structured and long-lasting waves is to use a fixing product like a mousseto be applied on damp hair».
«Then as a first step brush curls are created – working the sections on themselves in order to create the “corkscrew effect”, i.e. spiral. “The advice is to turn all sections in the same direction so that the ringlets “look” towards the back of the head from both sides, creating a symmetrical style».
For this operation it is better «to use the thermal brushes, i.e. those with a metal cylinder, which with the heat of the hair dryer will create the typical “curler” effect waves.
Then they comb their hair, «the spirals are unfastened and, if desired, they are taken up again with an iron to fix the hold and increase the duration of the styling».
Curly hair: how to enhance the curl without ruining it
«The must have for those with i curly hair it’s definitely the speaker hair tools that you really can’t do without.”
«Even for the curly hair styling, choosing the right products is essential to obtain a well-defined hair. It starts from modeling creams with moisturizing action up to the use of mousse or gel.
The extra tip? «After applying the styling products, spend a few minutes with wet hair to create the so-called “twist”: that is small soft and thin twistscreated with the fingers, which will ensure incredible softness and definition when drying».
«Once this stage is complete, you can proceed with the diffuser drying, setting the air flow to the minimum and the heat to the maximum». And for a super voluminous hair look? «Upside down if you want to get a leonine look, or firm and straight if you want to contain the volumes instead».
“Furthermore, never run your fingers to comb through the hair: it’s the best way to ruin and frizz curls» concludes Alex Cappelletti of Toni&Guy
