Lto violence against women continues its dramatic escalation. There have been 109 feminicides from the beginning of 2023 to today. But behind this frightening figure, there is another that is equally frightening: that of women trying to free themselves from an abusive partner who does not accept the decision and takes revenge on the woman he considers his property, inflicting punishment on her for abandonment and indelible marks which will change the victim’s life forever.
Violence against women: acid attack
This is the case of 50 year old woman attacked with acid in Palma di Montechiaro, in the province of Palermo, by her ex-husband who had already reported it. This dramatic episode comes a few days after the case of 25 year old from Erba, also attacked with acid by her ex. An attack, the one with acid, among the most ruthless. L’acid, sulfuric or muriatic that it is, in fact, is one corrosive substancepotentially capable of destroying skin and even muscle tissues. He knows it well Filomena Lamberti, the first woman in Italy to fall victim to acid. In 2012, on her night, her ex-husband poured her somesulfuric acid on the head, face, hands and décolleté. 10 years after that tragic episode, the woman is gradually regaining tissue sensitivity, so much so that she is able to “feel the wind on your face again”, as she herself stated. Thanks to the pro bono care of the project RegenerateDerma.

The damage of acid attack
“L’acid attackalso known as “vitriolage” is a form of premeditated violence that consists of throwing a corrosive substance on another person’s body with the intent to disfigure, mutilate, torture or kill her. The severity of the damage depends both on the concentration of the corrosive substance used and on the time it remains in contact with the tissues. The common denominator of the attackers is the desire to hit the face. Thesulfuric acid one of the most aggressive agents: he received very serious damage to his eyelids, lips, nose, ears. The lady had to suffer numerous plastic surgery procedures who were unable to completely restore either its appearance or function”, underlines the Doctor Bruno BrunettiSpecialist in Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases and owner of the Brunetti Dermatological Center in Salerno.

Upon palpation of the face and neck carried out after the treatments, the scar cords present were significantly improved, becoming softer and more elastic, allowing the patient to finally be able to tilt and rotate your head without limitations and pain. The psychological damage
«Facial scars are a serious problem in medicine, because they create consequences on the individual’s psychealter the self-image and diminish the life quality significantly. Today we have certainly effective therapeutic approaches, but we need to develop more and more non-invasive therapies, capable of acting safely and with documented effectiveness. Non-invasive therapies are particularly important because they can also be used more easily in most disadvantaged segments of the population. Precisely for this reason they have a high social impact”, underlines Professor Andrea Sbarbati, Full Professor of the University of Verona. «Lucius Anneus Seneca (4 BC, 65 AD) stated that the wound heals while the scar remains. Finally, after 2000 years, scientific research today also allows us to treat scars”, concludes Maurizio Busoni, head of the RigeneraDerma Project.
