To make volunteering for the World Cup Qatar 2022 be as attractive as possible FIFA offered all kinds of benefits to those who signed up to help at the mega event: in addition to paying for their trip to the Arab state, volunteers get accommodation with a private bathroom, transportation to go from the hotel to the stadium, and even data for their cell phones.
In addition, volunteers receive free food – from breakfast to dinner – uniforms, passes for events that take place during the World Cup and, obviously, the chance to attend the games in which they have to work.
For this edition of the World Cup, FIFA began a search for 20,000 volunteers at the beginning of the year who wanted to sign up to help organize the mega-event. It happens that an organization of such magnitude requires a large staff that can take charge of 45 functional areas and more than 30 different roles.
Those who were interested in participating had to register through the official FIFA website, fill out a form and submit a personal photo to start the recruitment process. The requirements that those who wanted to apply for volunteering had to meet are: being over 18 years of age and speaking English perfectly. In addition, volunteers had to be available to commit to a minimum of 10 turns during the tournament. And no previous experience was required.
The organizing authorities are aware of the importance of volunteers, since, according to themselves, “they are the first smile that visitors find when they arrive in Qatar.”
“Thanks to you, we can show the whole world that Qatar, the Gulf region and the entire Arab world welcome the planet in this unique experience in November and December this year. The world will unite in Qatar and hold a peaceful, wonderful tournament unforgettable”, said Infantino at the launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Volunteer Program, in March. And he was not wrong, because for many in the world, having held the World Cup in Qatar is considered one of the biggest mistakes in the history of FIFA. An error tainted by bribery, corruption and accusations of human rights abuses.
